CMI OIP
The Critical Materials Institution created the Open Innovation Project (OIP) proposal process during its seventh year as a way to add to the research portfolio during its eighth year.
Announcement
The CMI Open Innovation Project (OIP) was announced on June 5, 2020. Links to information and forms:

Eligibility
Teams must consist of a minimum of two organizations. The team must contain one member of industry and at least one of the organizations must be a current CMI Team Member or Affiliate. Industry-led proposals were preferred but not required. Lead institutions were limited to one submission. See CMI OIP Concept and Full Proposal Guidelines.
Webinar
The Critical Materials Institute held an information session about its call for Open Innovation Projects (OIP) on Thursday, June 11, 2020, where CMI Director Tom Lograsso described the call and OIP proposal process, then answered questions about it. Answers to the questions posed during the webinar plus questions submitted by proposers via oipquestions@ameslab.gov are on the FAQ list (54 questions as of 8-11-2020).
Proposal Process
Proposals were considered in two phases. Proposal teams had approximately four (4) weeks to submit a concept paper. Encouraged concept paper teams had an additional four (four) weeks to complete a full proposal.

Those looking to partner with others on an OIP proposal, were asked to complete a form with their name, company/institute, email, phone and area of interest/expertise. Information from people who indicated an interest in Teaming, including names and contact information is available here.

Deadlines
Concept papers were due no later than 5 p.m. CDT on July 1, 2020. Invitations to proceed to the full-proposal stage were planned for July 20, 2020. Full proposals were accepted only from encouraged concept papers, and were due no later than 5 p.m. CDT on August 21, 2020. Both concept papers and full proposals were to be be submitted via email to cmioip@ameslab.gov.
Award Notification
Notification of award was provided by September 30, 2020. The anticipated start date was set to be January 1, 2021.
