CMI researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory conducted this research for a CMI project that ended in 2020.

ORNL researched automated fastener identification, location, and extraction.  Many electric machines contain hundreds of fasteners that vary in type and size.  ORNL developed a vision system to rapidly identify the size and type of common electric vehicle fasteners, detect the precise center point of each fastener, and record the data to demonstrate fastener extraction. It is critical to obtain their precise location and classification to apply proper extraction tools. Link to highlight
