Introducing what are critical  materials and rare earth elements

CMI researchers from Idaho National Laboratory conducted the activity for this highlight

Achievement
CMI researchers Yuan-Yuan Lee and Mike Severson hosted a workshop entitled "Simulation for All”, presenting a CMI simulation model to analyze critical material supply chains, to eighth-grade girls from various schools in the greater Eastern Idaho region. Students interacted with the toolkit and understood the value of simulation models to solve complex, real-world problems.

Significance and Impact
Students acquired knowledge regarding critical materials and comprehended their role in the implementation of clean energy future. Students had the opportunity to observe the potential impact of clean energy deployment on critical materials and their supply chains.

Hub Target Addressed
Training the critical materials workforce of the future. Educating the next generation on critical materials and its importance to clean energy transition.
