CMI organizes UK-US Workshop on Bioengineering Solutions for Critical Minerals

CMI at Ames National Laboratory and Idaho National Laboratory conducted the activity for this highlight

Innovation
CMI leaders and industry partners were co-organizers and presenters for the UK-US Workshop on Bioengineering Solutions for Critical Minerals, held December 5-6, 2024, at the Natural History Museum, London, United Kingdom.

Achievement
Knowledge transfer of CMI bioengineering research, including bioleaching of critical materials and leveraging of lanmodulin proteins for enhanced rare earth element separations.

Significance and Impact

  • CMI is viewed as a national and international leader in the development of biologically-based approaches for critical materials recovery and refinement.
  • The workshop expanded connections within and between the U.S. and UK researcher communities.

Hub Target Addressed
