Meet CMI Leader Cynthia Howell

Cynthia HowellCMI education, training and outreach program manager is Dr. Cynthia Howell. She works at Colorado School of Mines for CMI. She brings a national perspective and knowledge of energy, education, industry and workforce issues with expertise in partnership development, collaborative project design, education reform and school resource and tool development. She has unique multidisciplinary experience working and promoting STEM across many platforms in higher education, at a national energy lab, a government agency, and in K-12 schools.

Previously, she served as the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Education Programs Director from 2001 to 2010, specializing in informal renewable energy education deployment. There, she became noted for "research to the classroom" excellence in program development and delivery.

She works with postdoctoral fellows and researchers and their respective undergrad and graduate students to take research to K-16 classrooms and national communities. Some highlights of current and past work includes: National Engineers Week event with Lockheed Martin for seven years; a two-week Sustainable Energy Education and Training (SEET) workshop for community college instructors for six years; and as co-PI for a digital library on climate change and energy, www.cleanet.org, for three years.

Cynthia received her doctorate in Education and Non Profit Administration at the University of Northern Colorado – Greeley. She has been involved in teaching at all levels, K through University, throughout her career.
