The Critical Materials Institution created the Open Innovation Project (OIP) proposal process during its seventh year as a way to add to the research portfolio during its eighth year.
The CMI Open Innovation Project (OIP) was announced on June 5, 2020. Links to information and forms to use:

Teams must consist of a minimum of two organizations. The team must contain one member of industry
and at least one of the organizations must be a current CMI Team Member or Affiliate. Industry-led proposals are preferred but not required. Lead institutions are limited to one submission. See CMI OIP Concept and Full Proposal Guidelines.
The Critical Materials Institute held an information session about its call for Open Innovation Projects (OIP) on Thursday, June 11, where CMI Director Tom Lograsso described the call and OIP proposal process, then answered questions about it. Answers to the questions posed during the webinar plus questions submitted by proposers via email@example.com, are on the FAQ list (59 questions as of 8-17-2020). Proposals will be considered in two phases. Proposal teams will have approximately four (4) weeks to submit a concept paper. Encouraged concept paper teams will have an additional four (four) weeks to complete a full proposal.

Concept papers are due no later than 5 p.m. CDT on July 1, 2020. Invitations to proceed to the full-proposal stage are planned for July 20, 2020. Full proposals will be accepted only from encouraged concept papers, and are due no later than 5 p.m. CDT on August 21, 2020. Both concept papers and full proposals should be submitted via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Notification of award will be received by September 30, 2020. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2021.
