Achievement
We identified optimal experimental conditions for bioleaching LCO cathodes based on net present value (NPV). The potential global warming impact of the proposed bioleaching approach was lower than other leaching methods, due to low acid consumption, mild chemical use, and efficient Co recovery.
Significance and impact
With optimized processing parameters, bioleaching is projected to be more profitable and environmentally friendly than other competing technologies.
Details and next steps
We will continue optimizing bioleaching through response surface method, focusing on pulp density, leaching time, leaching temperature, and ferrous sulfate addition.
