Innovation
Novel ferromagnets for U.S. national needs.

Achievement
A new method to accelerate the discovery of novel ferromagnetic compounds with tailored magnetic properties, such as high Curie temperature, or easy-axis magnetic anisotropy.

Significance and Impact

  • Created database of magnetic properties of Co-based compounds that can be used to discover overlooked materials for a wide range of potential applications.
  • Demonstrated a viable strategy to identify substitute materials applicable to materials classes beyond permanent magnets.

Hub Target Addressed
Discover substitute materials for permanent magnet applications.
