Innovation
Cerium Gap Magnets (CGMs) have a unique intra-granular domain pinning mechanism, which allows obtaining coercivity without sintering.

Achievement
Ready-to-use magnets are efficiently cast on a kg-scale using
a one-step process and noncritical, inexpensive Cerium.

Significance and Impact
Strong performance and efficient production addresses supply risks and reduces energy consumption by eliminating numerous manufacturing steps, freeing-up critical Neodymium and Dysprosium from their current middle energy applications by using abundant Cerium.

Hub Target Addressed
Win industry adoption of three technologies related to materials substitution for rare earth magnet materials.
