Innovation
First inter-country criticality assessment comparing supply chain risks in China, the European Union, Japan, and the United States.

Achievement
Identified key vulnerabilities at mining and processing stages, revealing distinct regional dependencies.

Significance and Impact

  • The diversified geographic scope of the analysis adds a spatial dimension to material criticality. Our assessment enables understanding of how vulnerabilities and priorities for materials in one region interact with another, which is not possible with previous analyses that focus on a single region or by comparing results obtained with different methods for different regions.
  • Our results are in line with current policy discussions in the relevant regions.

Hub Target Addressed
Developing criticality assessments and supply chain analysis tools.
