CMI talent pipeline from Purdue to Idaho National Laboratory

CMI researchers from Idaho National Laboratory and Purdue University conducted the activity for this highlight

Achievement
Dr. Sameer Kulkarni graduated from CMI Team member Purdue University in October and joined Idaho National Laboratory (INL) as a postdoctoral researcher in November 2024. 

Significance and Impact

  • Dr. Kulkarni previously worked as a student research associate for life cycle assessments (LCAs) on CMI technologies, including additively manufactured bonded neodymium-iron-boron magnets, electrochemically manufactured graphite, and aluminum cerium alloys from direct reduction of cerium oxide or carbonate. 
  • Dr. Kulkarni brings his critical material expertise to INL’s Dynamic & Spatial System Analyses Group, Decision Sciences Department, working on supply chain, market modeling and techno-economic assessment.
  • Also, Dr. Kulkarni will build skills in software development and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in critical material research.
