Innovation
Ames National Laboratory scientist Ajay P. Singh received the Best Poster Award at the 2025 Magnetism and Magnetic Materials (MMM) Conference for developing an innovative computational framework that accelerates the design of motors using less-critical permanent magnet materials.

Achievement

  • Built a computational framework for rapid optimization of permanent-magnet (PM) motor designs.
  • Provides a path to meet performance targets while addressing critical-materials constraints.
  • Now used to train machine-learning models to enable AI-assisted PM motor design.

Significance and impact
Accelerating the development of next-generation systems and devices that use less critical rare earth elements.

Hub Goal Addressed
Accelerate commercial deployment of reduced rare earth substitutes.
