CMI Leadership Academy alum earns ORNL highest recognition

Achievement 
Michael McGuire, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, was a member of the CMI Leadership Academy Cohort 1 and a CMI Project Lead. Now, he is an ORNL Corporate Fellow, the highest recognition for ORNL research staff.

Significance and Impact

  • McGuire leads the Correlated Electron Materials Group in ORNL’s Materials Science and Technology Division and directs materials research for the Quantum Science Center. 
  • He is recognized for his world-leading research and leadership in materials for quantum and energy technologies, including superconducting, magnetic, two-dimensional and topological materials. 
  • At ORNL, McGuire has helped secure and lead major DOE initiatives — the Quantum Science Center and Critical Materials Innovation Hub — uniting multidisciplinary teams across national laboratories and universities.
