Achievement
CMI leaders and researchers won 2025 R&D 100 Awards, with recognition during the award ceremony in November. These bring the total R&D 100 Awards to 17: a dozen R&D 100 Awards for technologies, three R&D 100  Award Special Recognition: Green Technologies, and two R&D 100 Professional Awards for individuals.

Significance and Impact

In the 2025 R&D 100 Awards, CMI won four awards:

  • REMAFS (Rare Earth Metals via Alternative Fluoride Salts), Gold in the 2025 R&D 100 Special Recognition: Green Technology for a non-toxic process that removes hydrofluoric acid from rare-earth metal production
  • CMI novel MNBi magnet, 2025 R&D 100 Award 
  • CMI graphite synthesis method, 2025 R&D 100 Award 
  • CMI Director Tom Lograsso, Ames National Laboratory, 2025 R&D Leader of the Year
