Dawn Wellman is the CMI Science Integration Lead as of July 1, 2026. She is the Senior Fellow for Critical Minerals and Materials at Savannah River National Laboratory. Previously, she was Manager of Strategic Programs and Partnerships for Copper R&D with Rio Tinto, where she led the North American critical mineral coproduction strategy from copper and served on the CMI Industry Council. Wellman served the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for more than 20 years in multiple roles, including most recently as Director of the Earth Science Division (ESSD). She also served as Chief Scientist for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Environmental Management, Office of Technology Innovation and Development. She was a member of the inaugural DOE Oppenheimer Science and Energy Leadership Program cohort and was also selected for the Global Institute for Leadership Development (GILD). Her scholarly work includes more than 125 peer‑reviewed publications, technical reports, and book chapters, along with more than 145 presentations. She earned degrees in chemistry, including a bachelor of science from the University of North Dakota and a doctorate from Washington State University.
