Rebecca Smaha is a Scientist at National Renewable Energy Laboratory. She started with NREL as a Director’s Postdoctoral Fellow. Smaha works in the Materials Design & Discovery team to create novel materials for stronger magnets and more efficient electronic devices. She is part of CMI project 2.3.4 “Tailored synthesis in nanoparticle permanent magnets (NPPM),” as well as other DOE-funded projects at the interface of solid state chemistry, materials science, and condensed matter physics.

As a member of the CMI Leadership Academy fifth cohort, she developed the CMI Short Course that was held April 11, 2024, at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado.

Smaha earned master’s and doctorate degrees in Inorganic Chemistry at Stanford University, and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Princeton University.
