Critical Materials Innovation Hub Intern Call for Nominations, Summer 2024

The Critical Materials Innovation Hub (CMI) invites our national laboratory researchers to submit nominations for the Summer 2024 CMI Internship Program. Ideally, the nominees should be students who are not currently working on a CMI project. Those selected will participate in a 10-week summer internship at a CMI national laboratory in 2024. Up to 5 students will be selected.

Participants will be trained in conducting top-notch research, learn about research capabilities at national laboratories, and network with industry and university partners, all while being exposed to potential career opportunities. CMI will provide a flat stipend of $10,000 to the intern. In addition, up to $1,000 will be provided per intern for reimbursable travel expenses. It is expected that the CMI project will provide support for the internship research activities through its existing funds.

Eligibility: Open to both undergraduate and graduate students from any U.S. college or university. We highly encourage the nomination of students from non-CMI institutions, especially those from underrepresented groups.

Process: Submit a nomination statement of ½ to 1 page and the nominee’s CV to CMI-internship@ameslab.gov. The nomination statement should have the following information:

  • Nominator
  • Nominee
  • Project title
  • Brief internship scope

Deadline for nominations: On or before Monday, April 15. Decisions announced no later than Monday, April 22.
