CMI education and outreach ranges from youth to adult, with an emphasis on workforce development

  • Nov. 4-5, for the Materials in STEM (M-STEM) national educator workshop held at Colorado School of Mines, CMI hosted, planned and delivered a materials poster session and two workshops. For the poster session, judges included CMI Deputy Director Rod Eggert, and he announced the winners at a reception at the Mines Geology Museum, featuring the CMI exhibit complete with docent to walk people through the experience. This national workshop brought high school, community college educators and university professors from across the nation, including Alaska, Arizona, Iowa, Maryland, Ohio, Minnesota, Virginia and Washington. The M-STEM event moves to different locations each year. Previous M-STEM conferences were held in Alabama (2018), Virginia (2017), Oklahoma (2016) and Florida (2015).
  • Feb. 19, to highlight National Engineers Week, CMI, Colorado School of Mines and Lockheed Martin hosted students interested in STEM careers and the aerospace industry. They toured the Center for SPACE lab and the critical materials exhibit at the Mines Geology Museum.
  • Feb. 4-5, CMI offered a post doctoral/graduate student professional meeting at Colorado School of Mines, with grad/postdoc presenters from national laboratories and universities.
