Achievement

  • New critical-element-free Fe-rich alloy with intrinsic properties sufficient for development of high-performance permanent magnet, i.e., Ha > 75 T, Ms > 11 kG (see Figure).
  • Small Sm doping (7 - 9 wt.%) of V-stabilized CeFe12 bulk alloys facilitates magnetocrystalline anisotropy field that exceeds Nd2Fe14B-based magnets.

Significance and Impact
Novel critical-element-free permanent magnet material that consists of 75 wt.% Fe and uses domestic earth-abundant, inexpensive, Ce.
