This CMI-funded research was conducted at Idaho National Laboratory.
Achievement:
Novel complexants for improved separation of lanthanides were evaluated for potential inhibition of biological wastewater treatment.
Significance and Impact:
Identification of one structure as more problematic than the other influences direction of further separation research.
Details and Next Steps:
- At equivalent concentrations (> 500X dilution of working concentrations), LDGA2 highly inhibitory while LDGA similar to TODGA in impacts on ammonia oxidation by Nitrosomonas europaea, model organism for N removal during wastewater treatment.
- Will examine contribution of solvents Isopar L and Exxal-13 to inhibition by DGAs.
