Achievement
Four graduating seniors at Missouri S&T generated fundamental data in a CMI-sponsored senior design team.

Significance and Impact 
The team demonstrated the reduction and re-oxidization of iron in an industrial zinc solution. Fe(III) needs to be reduced to facilitate selective gallium recovery from acidic solutions.

Details and Next Steps
The team developed valuable research and communication skills while learning of the importance of gallium. The team’s research forms a baseline to compare future developments leading to Ga extraction from acidic solutions.

  • Semiconductors - capturing gallium and germanium from domestic zinc residues.
