CMI Project 4.1.13: Accelerated alloy development and rapid assessment

Ryan Ott at Ames Laboratory leads the CMI project "Accelerated alloy development and rapid assessment"

This project attempts to rapidly develop new materials and materials synthesis techniques with a focus on materials that are critical to U.S. energy technologies. This includes developing more cost effective high-performance magnets as well as high-temperature aluminum alloys that utilize mining by-products. The project uses 3D printing to rapidly synthesize alloys over large composition ranges combined with advanced characterization techniques to quickly identify desirable structures and/or properties.
