Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has wide-ranging applications in the development of energy materials and technologies. This is evident by the abundance of NMR research groups and programs across the U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratory complex. While there are an estimated 30 or more NMR or NQR groups among all the National Laboratories, the exchange of knowledge and ideas between these groups has been rather limited. In an effort to improve communication and collaboration among the groups, the first National Laboratory NMR Symposium has been organized to bring the silent and large together for the first time.
Symposium Information
Date: June 5 & 6, 2025
Location: Ames National Laboratory, in Ames Iowa
Who can attend: Any scientist, postdoctoral researcher, or graduate student in the NMR discipline employed at a DOE National Laboratory.
Registration
Registration is free. To register and submit your abstract, please complete this form. Registration ends April 25, 2025.
Travel
Des Moines International Airport (DSM) is the most conveniently-located airport. While Executive Express operates a shuttle between DSM and Ames, car rental may be more convenient given that all hotels are situated several miles from the Lab.
Accommodations
The Gateway Hotel is the hotel most convenient to Ames National Laboratory’s location. There are also numerous other options for accommodation in Ames.
Parking
Parking is available within walking distance to the symposium location on the campus of Iowa State University. A temporary parking pass can be purchased from Iowa State Parking. The recommended parking locations are lots 29, 30, and 33 on the map displayed below. If you require accessible parking or other mobility assistance, please contact:

Before arriving on-site at the Laboratory, visitors will be registered according to Ames National Laboratory's visitor policy. To check-in upon arrival, please proceed to the Badging Office which is located in Room 105 TASF, using the stairs at the right or the wheelchair accessible ramp to the left (shown in the photo below). At either door, please use the buzzer located to the right to gain access to the building. For questions regarding site access or the visitor's policy, please contact the Ames Laboratory Badging Office, badgingoffice@ameslab.gov, or phone: 515-294-6076.

Program Information
The NMR Symposium will feature both oral and poster presentations. The submission of abstracts for oral presentations is encouraged, and equal representation of the laboratories will be prioritized. Students and postdocs are encouraged to attend and present their research. When the program has been organized, it will be posted in this location.
