Division of Critical Materials Capabilities

Overview

We lead the Critical Materials Innovation Hub (CMI) for the U. S. Department of Energy.

We are home to the Controlled Atmosphere Magnet Processing System (CAMPS), a unique national resource for materials synthesis, processing and characterization. This equipment allows operations, including milling, sieving, compaction, magnetization, heat treatment, quenching, microscopy and elemental analysis, to be performed under controlled atmosphere.

We collaborate with Ames National Laboratory and eight other national laboratories for the Minerals to Materials Supply Chain Research Facility (METALLIC).
