IDEC Student Design Competition (10 hour), Midwest Regional Winner, Design Exhibition at IDEC International Conference, New York City: the design challenge focused on a retail space in an international airport in the Midwest, the shop name was Virtual Midwest, and the product sold was virtual reality

Student Design Charrette Competition (12 hour), Second Place (out of 13 teams), University of Missouri-Columbia: the design challenge focused on exhibit design for an art gallery in SOHO, New York, with changing displays of different mediums which alter viewer perceptions of both the art and the architecture.

Marshall Community Library, Marshall, Wisconsin
Winner of the 2004 Library of the Year from the South Central Library System of Wisconsin, the design team focused on reducing the scale of the 9,000 sq. ft. footprint. Mr. Cartland directed client interaction and provided a holistic interior design concept that included architectural detailing, interior aesthetic development, material and finish specifications and FF&E coordination.

MFA Thesis Statement: In order for the interior environment of a mass produced single family house to reinforce human circadian rhythms, thereby enhancing human well-being, the spaces are oriented to provide activities with maximum solar access permitting the activities to correspond with the time sequence and daily migration of the sun.
