New Midland lithium facility could produce nearly half of US lithium output

CMI scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory developed six technologies that were licensed to Element3 Resources, which has launched a new facility that can produce a lot of lithium. The company hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the facility in Midland, Texas.

As noted by KMID Midland, the Element3 Resources Permian Basin Lithium Extraction and Carbonate Facility is a new plant designed to produce lithium carbonate using oilfield wastewater from the Permian Basin. Company leaders stated that the project is the first new lithium carbonate facility tied to a domestic mining operation to be brought to market in the United States since 1967.
