Gap magnets are the sweet spot between powerful neodymium magnets and much weaker ferrite magnets. The solution: Cerium-based magnets. The Critical Materials Institute has been developing potential commercial solutions for the magnet problem. Led by Andriy Palasyuk, the project is now researching how such a magnet could be cast rather than powder-pressed.
