Better Refractory Formulations through Accelerated Scientific Discovery

In an article written for Industrial Heating Magazine, Tina Kaarsberg,  technology manager for the Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), discusses research and development advances to formulate high-quality metal powders optimized for metal additive manufacturing, including hard-to-build alloys.

The article features an Ames Laboratory-led project, P4AM, which is developing a computational Tool that will enable U.S. manufacturers to create and customize their own formulations for new, high-performance multi-principal-element alloys.
