Project A‑TEAM will speed industrial catalyst development
Ames National Laboratory has been selected for funding under a new $34 million award from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy (ARPA‑E) supporting 12 projects that integrate artificial intelligence with autonomous laboratories to accelerate industrial catalyst development.
Ames Lab’s project, Autonomous High‑Throughput Experimentation to Accelerate Chemical Manufacturing (A‑TEAM), will combine AI‑driven models with robotic synthesis and testing platforms to rapidly identify and optimize novel catalyst materials. The effort focuses on expanding catalyst discovery capabilities while reducing reliance on precious metals.
The project is a collaboration with Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Chemspeed, and BASF, bringing together academic, technology, and industry expertise to advance catalyst design and manufacturing approaches.a
