Ames National Laboratory and the Critical Materials Innovation Hub will participate in Seattle Fusion Week, an event hosted by CleanTech Alliance that brings together leaders from across science, industry, and government to accelerate the future of fusion energy.
Ames Lab Director Karl Mueller will moderate the National Labs Capabilities Panel, spotlighting the unique role of DOE national laboratories in advancing fusion research through specialized facilities, interdisciplinary expertise, and collaborative innovation. Ryan Ott, Deputy Director of the Division of Materials Sciences and Engineering at Ames Lab, will also join the panel.
Tom Lograsso, Director of the Critical Materials Innovation Hub, will contribute to the Critical Minerals and Materials for Fusion Energy panel. His insights will focus on the materials science and supply chain challenges that must be addressed to support scalable, sustainable fusion energy technologies.
Fusion energy represents a transformative opportunity for limitless and reliable energy generation, but its success depends on more than physics—it requires breakthroughs in materials discovery, processing, and availability. Ames Lab is at the forefront of this effort, advancing fusion energy by applying its world-class materials science expertise to develop and characterize resilient materials capable of withstanding the extreme conditions inside fusion reactors. In addition, Ames Lab and the CMI Hub are working to ensure that the critical materials needed for fusion and other energy technologies are accessible, secure, and responsibly sourced.
Seattle Fusion Week provides a vital platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and strategic planning as the U.S. moves closer to realizing fusion’s potential.
