Ames Lab Technology Wins R&D 100 Award

Congratulations to Jun Cui and Wei Tang for winning a 2025 R&D 100 Award! R&D World announced this year's winners earlier today.

Their technology, MnBi-based rare-earth-free permanent magnets, retain their magnetism at high temperatures, coercivity nearly doubles with a 100°C (212°F) increase from room temperature. The key to their performance lies in the preparation and fabrication process. Here is a recent story about the technology.

The technology was developed out of a partnership between Ames National Laboratory and the Critical Materials Innovation Hub.
