Partnership supports national effort to strengthen critical materials supply chains and manufacturing
Ames National Laboratory and the Critical Materials Innovation (CMI) Hub are partners in the newly selected NSF Critical Materials Crossroads Engine, a regional innovation initiative led by the University of Missouri–Kansas City that could receive up to $160 million over the next decade.
The Engine was chosen as one of 12 new NSF Regional Innovation Engines nationwide and aims to strengthen domestic supply chains for critical materials used in technologies ranging from batteries and semiconductors to aerospace and defense systems.
Bringing together more than 260 partners across industry, government and academia, the initiative seeks to establish the Kansas City region as a national hub for critical materials innovation, commercialization and workforce development.
CMI Hub Director Tom Lograsso will serve on the Engine’s advisory board, helping provide strategic guidance as the partnership advances U.S. capabilities in critical materials research, manufacturing and supply chain resilience.
