2025 AI and Data Science Workshop for Energy Solutions
June 9 - July 21, 2025

The AI and Data Science Workshop for Energy Solutions is a five-week summer workshop. It is designed for early undergraduate students like you and provides training and mentoring in data science! Join us and you can:

  • Receive a $500/week stipend!
  • Build skills in AI, data exploration, visualization techniques and machine learning!
  • Network with scientists at a Department of Energy National Laboratory!
  • Learn how your skills can impact discovery in materials, engineering, and recycling science!
     
Workshop goals
  • Introduce students to the general data science process in the AI era, methods for data exploration and visualization, and methods for machine learning, Applied AI, Generative AI, and Large Language Models (LLM).  
  • Help students build a STEM identity in a supportive learning environment
  • Foster engagement and mentorship with DOE scientists and their research.  
  • Eligibility requirements of attendees will include US Citizenship, minimum age of 18, 2.0-3.0 GPA in STEM subjects, and early undergraduate status.  
  • Career path exploration, including an introduction to the Department of Energy & Ames National Laboratory, and additional professional development opportunities. 
  • We provide complimentary housing in Iowa State University apartments at student's request.
  • This year's application is linked HERE. The deadline to apply is March 23, 2025. Offers will be made on a rolling basis beginning February 1, 2025.  Offers will be made until all spots have been filled.
     
Eligibility requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Minimum age of 18
  • 2.0-3.0 GPA in STEM subjects
  • Early undergraduate status
