Ames National Laboratory Active for Life is a laboratory-wide team challenge that will take place over eight weeks in May and June, and is designed to encourage people to become more physically active. Participants set goals for themselves at an activity level and duration they are comfortable with. Goals that are challenging yet attainable are the best bet for success!

The team competition format is designed to foster interaction with your coworkers and make it fun.
The team with the most activity minutes and participation in challenges wins!

Great job being active in week 6, let’s make week 7 even better! Don’t forget to add your minutes and points to the Google Sheets. Look for the posters around the lab, they have a QR code with a link to the weekly challenge and scavenger hunt!

Week 7: June 19th - 25th

Weekly Challenge: Park and walk.  Park further from the entrance of all the places that you drive this week. Walking provides so many health benefits including: reducing stress, improve cardiovascular fitness, helping to maintain a healthy weight, etc. This week don’t rush to get the prime-time parking.  Take an extra few minutes and enjoy your stroll into work by parking further away.  Earn 10 bonus for parking farther away this week.

Weekly Scavenger Hunt: This elevation marker states “U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey and State Survey Station No. 133 Elevation. Feet” This is a little bit of a further walk from the Lab, but you might be able to see Iowa State’s Lance and Ellie on your trip.  Do you know where it is? To earn 15 bonus points take a selfie or a groupie and submit it to activeforlife@ameslab.gov.  A round trip for this walk is 1.34 miles if leaving the lab from the East entry doors.  Hint: It is located on the Southwest Side of Lake LaVerne.
