Momentum Technologies expands platform to support national supply chain for rare earth elements

Momentum Technologies announced that its Carrollton, Texas, demonstration plant has commenced the processing of rare earth element (“REE”) waste from magnet swarf and mining tailings at commercial scale using its proprietary Membrane Solvent Extraction (MSX) technology. MSX is being applied to expand U.S. domestic supply of neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium and other high-value REEs critical to permanent magnets. This facility marks a key milestone in Momentum’s strategy to scale REE recovery, with planned future expansions aimed at strengthening the U.S. supply chain for rare earths and other critical minerals. Initially the MSX technology was developed by CMI researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. It is licensed to Momentum, which has continued to develop the process as it scales it from laboratory bench to commercial scale.
