Express Package Shipping Services
The materials handling office's express package shipping service offers overnight domestic letter and parcel service for official business only. Express international shipments are also offered. Many hazardous and non-hazardous materials may be shipped by express. This service is provided to Ames Laboratory personnel.
Hours: Monday through Friday - 7:30 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. through 4:00 p.m.
Cutoff: for 10:30 a.m. next day delivery: 2:30 p.m. (non-hazardous materials)
All materials and documents to be shipped off-site require a Shipping Order. FORM
The shipping orders are numbered at the time of shipment. A copy of the shipping order will be sent to the requestor (sender) after tracking numbers are determined. The original form is maintained in the Accounting Office, 224 TASF.
Shipping Orders MUST include the Receiver's telephone number. Carriers will NOT pick up parcels without a telephone number on attached documentation.
Shipping orders for international shipments must be approved by Deb Covey, 305 TASF.
The material and a completed shipping order is to be dropped off at 153 Spedding.
Please visit with someone to assure all information is complete and accurate so that there will be no delay in shipping the package. If you drop it off on your way home without visiting with someone in 153 Spedding - Good Luck!
Non-hazardous material packages may be delivered to Fedex, 238 Alexander Ave. Ames, IA. 50010 or one of the Drop Off locations in Ames. A shipping order must be delivered to 153 Spedding for each drop off package. If you want to drop off a package, please present the Materials and Transportation office with a shipping order so that you can obtain a preprinted label for your letter or box before dropping it off. Fedex/UPS letter and box packagings are available from 153 Spedding. Hazardous materials may not be dropped off at a carriers facility.
Hazardous material shipments must be picked up by Fedex at 153 Spedding. There is no cutoff time for hazardous material shipments because of the variable time required to prepare shipments, so they should they should be delivered to 153 Spedding before 1:00 p.m. for the best possibility of being shipped out the same day. Hazardous material packagings are provided by Materials and Transportation. Certified packagings (if required) will be charged to your project as listed on the shipping order.
Fedex liability per shipment is: $ 100.00
The Government is self insured (i.e. your program will pay for any loss between $100 and $5,000). Shipments above $5,000 are covered by ISU's Risk Management pool. Call Andrea Spiker (4-6738) for details prior to shipping.
