Week 6 - Active for Life

June 3rd - 9th

Scavenger Hunt Clue: This outdoor fitness course was supported by a memorial fund set up after a motorcycle accident in September of 1981. Can you find this outdoor fitness area on campus?

If you leave Ames Laboratory from the East Entrance walking the most direct path you will have walked about .55 miles one way.

* If you complete this scavenger hunt, take a selfie and submit it to activeforlife@ameslab.gov you will earn 10 bonus points for week 6.  These selfies will be shared on the Ames Laboratory website under the week 6 tab

Weekly Challenge: June 7th is the Ames Laboratory blood drive and we would like to impact as many lives as possible.  Did you know that approximately 32,000 pints of blood are used each day in the United States and just one pint of donated blood can help save as many as three people's lives? Sign up to donate blood at the blood drive to earn challenge points. Use this link to schedule your appointment:

If you are unable to donate, but would still like to help out contact Occupational Medicine to sign up to volunteer. You will still earn challenge points for volunteering, if unable to donate.

>>Bonus challenge:  Get a blood pressure check.  Stop by Occupational Medicine to get you blood pressure checked. You should have a blood pressure test performed at least once every two years to screen for high blood pressure as a risk factor for heart disease and stroke, starting at age 18. If you're age 40 or older or if you're age 18 to 39 with a high risk of high blood pressure it may be necessary to have your blood pressure checked every year.

*You will earn 20 bonus points for donating blood (this includes a blood pressure check at your screening prior to donation).  You will earn 10 bonus points for volunteering at the blood drive if unable to donate, and you can earn an additional 10 bonus points for getting a blood pressure check. Extra, extra... you will get 5 extra bonus points for volunteering AND donating blood.
