Week 4 - Active for Life

Scavenger Hunt Clue: Do you have the time? Find this sundial sculpture on campus and it will help you to find the time. Using the most direct walking path, exiting the Ames Laboratory building from the East you would walk approximately .62 miles one way!

Submit your selfie to activeforlife@ameslab.gov.  This will be shared on the Ames Laboratory website under Active For Life Week 4. (way at the bottom of the page)  You will earn 10 bonus points for completing the scavenger hunt.

Weekly Challenge #1: Attend the Barre class on May 23rd from 12-1245 in 301 Spedding hall. This class will be instructed by recreation services of Iowa State. Barre workouts are intensely focused on improving core strength, developing the stabilizing muscles of the shoulder and hip girdles, and enhancing flexibility. This is done mostly by performing isometric exercises and small movements that "burn out" muscles at a specific joint angle within a given range of motion. Specifically, barre workouts can contribute to improvements in balance, flexibility, posture, and core strength. (This is not meant to be a “get hot and sweaty” work out, but you should be in clothes that you are able to move easily in)

By attending this Barre Session you will earn 10 challenge points for week 4.

Weekly Challenge #2: Eat your veggies. It is recommended that adult women consume 2.5 cups of vegetables every day. Adult men should consume 3 cups of vegetables each day. Only 27 percent of American adults eat the recommended three or more servings of vegetables daily, according to a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. By eating at least 2.5 cups of vegetables each day this week you earn 10 challenge points.
