Scavenger Hunt Clue: There are only a few of these highway markers that are still in place on nearly 3,000 miles of road. This one was placed on campus on September 1, 1928 at 9AM by groups of Boy Scouts to officially mark and dedicate them to Abraham Lincoln.
This is a bit of a longer scavenger hunt walk. If you take the most direct walking path starting from the East Entrance of the Ames Laboratory building you will walk approximately .92 miles one way.
Scavenger Hunt clue #2: In case you aren't able to make it all the way to the first clue, we didn’t want to leave anyone out. So here goes: You will find this memorial tree and seating area near Horticulture Hall. The tree is a Japanese Maple and the plaque reads, “Friendship is a sheltering tree.”
If you take the most direct walking path leaving the East entrance of the Ames Laboratory building to this destination, you will have walked about .38 miles one way.
>>> You can earn 10 bonus points for completing 1 of the 2 scavenger hunt locations, or you can earn 15 bonus points for completing both locations and submitting a selfie to firstname.lastname@example.org . This selfie will be put on the Ames Lab website under the week 3 tab
Week 3 Challenge: Drink more water. It is recommended that we drink 8-8 oz. glasses of water, so the challenge for Active for Life is that you substitute you sugary beverages such as soda and juice for a healthier option such as water. You can earn challenge points for drinking more water Monday-Friday during week 3.
Also, May is Bike Month, and all Ames Laboratory employees are invited to join Sara Cady, from the Ames Bicycle Coalition, to talk about bicycling, commuting, and safety at a Lunch & Learn, Tuesday, May 15, 12-1 p.m. in room 140 TASF. Spin on over with your sandwich!
Challenge points if you bike to work on May 18th for Ames Lab bike to work day!
>>> A total of 25 challenge points can be earned for week 3! 10 points for drinking more water, 10 points for attending the Lunch and Learn and an extra 5 points for actually biking to work May 18th.
