Ames Laboratory Interim Deputy Director and Division of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE) director Tom Lograsso announced the appointment of Matthew Kramer as the Assistant Director for DMSE effective October 1, 2012. As the Assistant DMSE Director, Kramer will be responsible for DSME White Paper and capital equipment solicitations/allocations, foreign travel management and reporting, Safety Walk-through Inspections, and Associateship Renewals. He will assist DMSE with BES Triennial Reviews and other DOE reporting requirements and will be the acting DMSE Director in Lograsso's absence.
Kramer joined The Ames Laboratory in 1988 and is currently a Senior Scientist at Ames Lab and Adjunct Associate Professor in Materials Science and Engineering at Iowa State University. He serves as an FWP Leader for multiple research programs in DMSE supported by BES-MSED, Office of Fossil Energy and ARPA-E. He also provides scientific oversight of the electron microscopy facilities at Ames Laboratory. His has made significant contributions in the areas of structure and properties of glass forming metallic alloys, aperiodic intermetallic alloys, permanent magnets and high temperature alloys.
