AMES, Iowa – Employees from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Ames Laboratory will help keep Story County families warm this winter. On Saturday, Oct. 30, three teams of Ames Lab employees will volunteer at the Story County Winter Weatherization Challenge.

Ames Laboratory employees, along with approximately 120 other volunteers, will seal cracks and cover windows in the homes of low-income, elderly and disabled people in Story County. Volunteer teams will each winterize one or two homes, with the goal of reducing home owners’ energy consumption and utility bills.

The Story County Winter Weatherization Challenge is a joint program of the Story County Volunteer Center, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and Mid-Iowa Community Action.
