AMES, Iowa, Feb. 14 2024—Ames National Laboratory announced today that they will conduct a search for its next Chief Operations Officer, who will assume oversight of the Laboratory’s business, facilities, and operations management. Ames Lab is a U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratory managed under contract by Iowa State University.
Steve Hamilton, the current Chief Operations Officer, recently announced his intention to retire in August 2024, after a five-year stint at the operations helm.
“The world-leading science we conduct here reflects national and global priorities in fundamental research and energy technology, and that does not happen without intelligent, efficient, and dedicated management of our systems, facilities, and budget,” said Ames National Laboratory Director Adam Schwartz. “We are committed to identifying the person who has the right skills to support and advance our mission through operations excellence.”
A search committee composed of Ames Laboratory and University representatives has been established to facilitate the search process; it will be chaired by James Morris, Chief Research Officer for the Laboratory.
