Reyixiati (Richard) Repukaiti joined Idaho National Laboratory (INL) in December 2021 as a postdoc. He is working on project 1.2.15, Unlocking Domestic Cobalt Production through Electrochemical Capture of Arsenic. The goal of the project is to extract cobalt and immobilize arsenic from a cobaltite mine in central Idaho.

"At INL, we are inventing new technologies with electrochemistry to replace traditional industrial methods to extract metals from minerals," he explains.

Richard earned his Ph.D. and M.S. from Oregon State University in materials science. During graduate school, he was an ORISE intern at National Energy Technology Laboratory. Before joining INL, his research was primarily focused on structural materials degradation in various environments, such as salt water, high temperature supercritical CO2, and aqueous CO2.
