  • The Critical Materials Institute, a U.S. Department of Energy Innovation Hub led by Ames Laboratory, has continued to find new solutions to problems caused by shortages of critical materials, primarily rare-earth elements.

  • Valley High School's Science Bowl Team, which won the 2015 Ames Laboratory/Iowa State University Regional Science Bowl was featured on the WHO-TV news recently. The story talked with students and coach Nathan Speichinger about the competition and showed the team practicing for the upcoming National Science Bowl to be held April 39-May 5 in Washington, D.C.

  • Former Johnston High School Science Bowl competitor George Vardaxis continued to stay involved in the Ames Laboratory Regional Science Bowl as an Iowa State University undergraduate and graduate student. Vardaxis will receive his Ph.D. in aerospace engineering later this spring.

    In this video, Vardaxis talks about his Science Bowl "career" and the value the event has for students pursuing degrees in science, math or engineering.
