The state-of-the-art building is designed to minimize vibrations and magneto-electric interference that can affect the new, high-resolution electron microscopy equipment located there. Ames Lab and Iowa State University researchers will use the equipment to probe new materials at the atomic scale to learn important information about their atomic structure and how that relates to various properties.

  • Ames Laboratory supports President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative to create and expand “Ladders of Opportunity for Boys and Young Men of Color.” On Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, Ames Laboratory scientists and students hosted approximately 100 eighth-grade students from Iowa State University’s Science Bound program for ethnically diverse middle- and high-school students for a morning of interactive science activities.
