    Scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Ames Laboratory will play a key role in the Lightweight Materials National Lab Consortium, or LightMAT.  The recently announced consortium consists of nine DOE national laboratories and will focus on developing and deploying lightweight materials for industry more quickly and at a fraction of current costs to strengthen U.S. manufacturing competitiveness.

    The U.S. Department of Energy’s Ames Laboratory will be the home of a new research consortium for the discovery and development of more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient refrigeration technologies, sponsored by DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). The consortium, named CaloriCoolTM, will pursue the development of alternative forms of refrigeration technologies, called caloric cooling, in partnership with the private sector and universities

    Ames Middle School repeated as champion here at Saturday’s Ames Laboratory Regional Middle School Science Bowl, but had a real challenge from LeMars.  The championship gives Ames a return trip to the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl® April 28-May 2 in Washington D.C.

    What: 13th Annual Ames Laboratory Regional Middle School Science Bowl. One of 50 regionals, the Ames Laboratory Middle School Science Bowl is a day-long quiz-bowl team competition with questions about Life Science, Physical Science, Earth and Space Science, Energy, Mathematics and General Science. The winning team will represent the regional at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl®, April 28-May 2, 2016 in Washington D.C.
