Ames Laboratory has lost an icon. Senior metallurgist Karl A. Gschneidner Jr., known internationally as Mr. Rare Earth, passed away early Wednesday morning at the age of 85. Visitation and prayer service will be held at Adams Funeral Home, 502 Douglas Ave, Ames, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, May 2. A funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday May 3 at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, 2900 Hoover Ave, Ames.
U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Ames Laboratory senior metallurgist Iver Anderson was inducted into the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) at a special ceremony in Washington, D.C. today at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
The Critical Materials Institute, a U.S. Department of Energy Innovation Hub led by the Ames Laboratory, has gained ten new affiliates to its research program, seeking ways to eliminate and reduce reliance on rare-earth metals and other materials critical to the success of clean energy technologies.
