    Middle school students from across Iowa will gather in Ames on Feb. 25 to compete in the 2017 Ames Laboratory/Iowa State University Regional Middle School Science Bowl. Twenty-four teams of students will compete to answer questions about biology, chemistry, earth and space science, energy, mathematics, and physics in the day-long, quiz-bowl format competition.

    Valley High School dominated the Ames Laboratory/Iowa State University Regional High School Bowl to win it's third championship in as many years. Valley defeated Des Moines's Central Campus 84-4 in the championship match and will advance to represent the region at the U.S. Department of Energy National Science Bowl® April 27-May 1 in Washington, DC.

    Ames Laboratory scientist Iver Anderson has been inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Anderson is one of 15 members in the 2017 class of inductees and is being recognized for the discovery of lead-free solder.
