Ames Laboratory scientist Iver Anderson was recently inducted into the Michigan Tech Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) Academy of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (MME). The MME Academy serves as a means for the department to honor the professional leadership and significant accomplishments of distinguished alumni and special friends. Nomination to the Academy is based on career success and on efforts or activities that support the department and enhance the educational experience of its students.
The Academy currently comprises 56 members selected from approximately 3,000 alumni who have received degrees from the department. The MSE faculty recognized Anderson's extraordinary contributions to the materials discipline, the educational activities he coordinates at the national level and from which MSE students benefit, and his ongoing support of the department and the surrounding local community. An induction ceremony was held on Friday, October 12, 2018.
Located in the hallway of the Mineral and Materials Building, a display of engraved portraits of the Academy membership serves as an inspiration for Michigan Tech's Materials Science and Engineering students, and as a daily reminder of what they too can accomplish. In addition, photos and biographies of the current Academy members can be found at http://www.mtu.edu/materials/department/alumni/academy/index.html.
