Central Lee wins 2013 Middle School Science Bowl

Central Lee (Donnellson) Middle School defeated Ames Middle School to win the 2013 Ames Laboratory-Iowa State University Regional Middle School Science Bowl here on Saturday, Feb. 23. Central Lee, a first-time competitor, will represent the Regional at the 2013 National Science Bowl, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, in Washington, D.C. April 25-27.

Due to weather, only 13 of the 16 teams entered were able to compete in the quiz-bowl style event which poses questions to teams of four students per school in the areas of biology, chemistry, earth and space science, energy, mathematics, and physics.

Central Lee, comprised of Aaron Wills, Richard Galle, Kacey Davis, Paolo Adajar and Carleigh Cass and coached by Heather Davis, put together a string of impressive wins before topping Ames 90-26 in the championship match. Ames was second, with Lynnville-Sully and Central Academy (Des Moines) finishing third and fourth respectively.
